Portrait of a Lady on Fire: poster and other promotional materials

Among the many projects I developed for Supo Mungam Films — which later became Supo Mungam Plus and is now FILMICCA (a partnership that continues to this day) — this is one of my favorites: the localization of the poster for director Céline Sciamma’s film Portrait of a Lady on Fire (original title: Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu).

Distributed by Supo Mungam Films in Brazil on January 9, 2020, the project required extreme care to preserve the visual identity already established internationally. The main challenge was recreating, in Portuguese, the typographic style of the original title. We did not have access to the font used in the French version (or to the artist responsible for creating the title, as it may have been custom lettering by a specialist), and it was essential to maintain consistency with the posters distributed in other countries.

The solution involved meticulous typographic reconstruction, with careful attention to rhythm, proportion, and the atmosphere of the original design. The result was a Brazilian version aligned with the other international adaptations, yet with its own personality — faithful to the essence of the film and appropriate for our local context.

This project reinforced the importance of combining aesthetic sensitivity with technical precision, especially when adapting a visual work that is already globally recognized.
