I can even mentally visualize my parents excited to see me coming into the world and dreaming about what I would decide to become when I grew up. Doctor? Lawyer? Scientist? Pursue a father's or mother's career? Most of the time, it's always like that. I remember when I was little and went to my father's company and my mother would ask me: “You're going to want to follow your father's path, right? Will you want to take care of the company when you grow up?” And, funny, since I was a little girl I already said no, hahaha. Today I even help my mother with things there, but I never had that desire to stay there, it wasn't my dream. It never was, actually.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a veterinarian, so I gave up — when I was 13, I think — because I kept imagining how difficult it must be for a veterinarian to have to sacrifice an animal that was suffering. Yes, although you helped him to finally have peace, it's a bit of a complicated decision, isn't it? Very sad and which unfortunately attests to your limitations in being able to save the poor animal. Anyway, after that I decided that I wanted to be a singer. More precisely, the lead singer of a symphonic metal band, hahaha. And look how I sing reasonably well yes, with a certain amount of effort, I'm sure I could achieve something interesting... the problem is shyness. In addition to the shyness of singing in front of people, I'm not the type of person who would like to travel back and forth for shows... and yet another dream that I thought was a dream is gone (but The hobby of singing persists, see? hahaha).
twos pseudo abandoned dreams. Is there more? Yes, there are!
I loved the economics classes I took at school. I really loved it, so much so that I even considered the possibility of graduating in the area. Today I can't even see myself as an economist, hahaha. Although it's a very interesting area, I'm not one of the best in mathematics. Yes, true, I could try harder in mathematics and maybe become an economist. The problem is that deep down I knew it wasn't for me for some reason.
And then I found the light when I finally stopped seeing Web Design as just a mere hobby in my life. Years and more years Playing blog that compensated for the effort and opened doors and interest in Design for me. And the Graphic Design course at the Panamerican School of Art and Design made me realize how much I could take advantage of in the area. As I said in first opening post of this blog, I loved illustration, visual identity, and editorial design during the course... but of all, Illustration appealed to me the most. Today Illustration is my focus and Web Design and Visual Identity my current work — which I also love, by the way... but Illustration has a more special corner in my heart. And, of course, to achieve an internship where I can only work with Illustration will not be easy, but let's go!
We are pressured from all sides to pursue a career that makes money.
In fact, they all work if we stop to think about it, the real problem is how much of your time you intend to spend to invest in your dream, especially when it comes to areas involving art. You can (and should!) work for a few years with something that may not be your dream, but it serves to cover your expenses, while investing in your dream. Conquering a target audience, turning your art into something necessary for people... is an arduous task that requires time and effort. It's not always easy to handle both things at the same time — current job and dream — but we need to try and do our best if we want to have a fulfilled life.
Over time, you will be able to reach a stage where your dream becomes your job too. Just don't expect it to be overnight.
When we put money above everything else, our effort becomes futile. The excessive desire of the call “make money with this” It cannot be an extreme focus but a consequence of the effort you put into what you do, because thinking about money in the first place affects our objectives. That is why to think clearly it is necessary to have a separate job that covers your monthly expenses. Of course, eventually you will be able to make money with what you dream, but this must depend on your effort to improve every day and the patience you will need over time. It's not in 6 months, 1 year... 5 years, maybe, who knows, that your dream of working with what you love will come true. In fact, you, me, everyone else, we have no idea exactly when it is that every effort in this dream will become a reality. And that's why many give up. Persistence necessitates dominate.
Giving up time and not doing some things is extremely necessary to follow your dream.
Another problem affecting the direction of our dreams is that we are afraid of giving up our time - we are not always so willing to stop doing things that do not lead us to the right path. Not that it's wrong to watch a movie on Netflix or play video games, but we need to give up on them from time to time to train and focus on the dream. Obviously you don't have to stop having some free time! Free time to relax is necessary to clear your head, but don't forget to always have a sketchbook by your side because ideas come up when you least expect them.
But the dream must be the focus and the possible consequence of the money.
Always. Many, seeing famous artists/designers/illustrators earning well and everything else, already think that it happened overnight or that the material he uses makes the difference... No!Believe and be sure that that person was able to reach the stage of working with what they love as a result of many nights in the clear and a lot of study and effort because, as I said above, it's not easy to get a target audience for their art. It's really not easy, but don't give up never!
Rather have goals and then work with what you love than to live your whole life in a job that doesn't give us satisfaction.
Keep your focus and objectives clear to achieve your dream and rest assured that you will be rewarded for everything you gave of yourself to get the dream job. As long as the flame of focusing on the dream persists, there's nothing that will make you give up halfway. Do you know who your greatest enemy is? Yourself. Don't let all your efforts be in vain! Fight to achieve your dreams!
