I apologize for the delay in posting here on the blog - I usually do one post a week, but the rush with the work is being complicated. Despite this, I'm keeping up the pace of one drawing a day from Inktober, as I always did, which is great... just the delay even with the posts/newsletters this time, hahaha.
Details of the drawing from the 14th: Overgrown (when something grows larger than “normal”).
The idea here is toys that are turned against the child who plays with them - and they appear gigantic and scary because it's as if you were seeing the scene through their eyes, hahaha. Yes, my insanity.
Finished drawing. For this one, I used black and white ink pens as well as gold ink pens.
Day 15: Legend. Finally, I decided to make a new art inspired by Medusa - so those who already follow my work know that I really like to draw her, haha.
This art took around 5 hours to finish. They usually take a long time, it depends on the amount of details I want to add, you know?
Also, I always have fun drawing snakes for some reason, hahaha.
I used white and black ink pens, in addition to the silver one for the eyes of Medusa and snakes as well.
Finished drawing.
I decided to also include here a comparison of this drawing with a drawing I made in 2013 and another in 2017 — I didn't add the dates to the image because I think it's pretty obvious when each one is, right?
As I always comment here, I really like to make regular comparisons of new and old drawings, as it's a way of seeing how much I've improved. In fact, you can understand evolution a lot and that's why I hit the button a lot that Practicing is everything — because it really is. In the 2013 drawing I was still learning light and shade and I was still very afraid to explore more; in the 2017 drawing I already had more skills, but I still had some fears of going further; already in this new one from 2019 you notice a better movement, a more defined style. It's certainly one of my favorite drawings from this Inktober :)
Details of the drawing from the 16th: Wild.
I thought too much about those details, wow, hahaha. But it was fun to do. I had never drawn someone climbing a tree, so it was really cool :)
Finished drawing. This idea is an elf who is climbing the tree to get her bow that is attached to one of the branches. In addition, she has a friend's bunny that wears a hat and is waiting for her to come down, haha. I used black and white ink pens.
Day 17: Ornament and Moons. In that I decided to take advantage of the Elder Scrolls Online list to also explore the theme of Moons together with ornaments. Since this year we're exploring Elsweyr in the game, there's nothing fairer than exploring the dragons theme too, haha. Apart from Luas referring to the Khajiiti pantheon, “Jone and Jode”, but then I go into many details of the game's lore, hahaha.
The idea was to make the skeleton only of the dragon, but I ended up getting carried away and trying something more focused on... “meat”... of the animal, hahaha.
I used black and white ink pens, as well as gold and silver pen details :)
Day 18, Misfit. I decided to do a Joker fan art by Joaquin Phoenix - what a wonderful movie, by the way.
In addition to the black and white pens (UniPOSCA) I also used Stabilo green, blue and red. I also decided to opt for my pastel pencils from Polychromos to paint the clothes and for the softer white of the face paint as well. The initial idea was to paint just the face itself, but I realized that it would be much more fun to try an HQ style, with black outlines and painting as well.
It even includes a phrase from the movie that appears in a scene he is writing in his diary “the worst part of having a mental ilness is people expect you to behave as if you don't.” Basically, what he means here is that people expect people with mental disorders to behave as if they don't have any problems—because they don't understand their daily suffering and struggle. Very sad and very real. In fact, I highly recommend that you watch this movie!
Finished drawing.
Day 19, Sling. The term sling is associated with several things, such as slingshot or rope and so on. It's also a commonly used term for “carrying something” — such as an accessory for carrying a baby. I decided to follow this line, in the case of the drawing it is a kangaroo carrying its baby in its bag.
I used black and white ink pens and made some details in gold and silver pen in the background.
Finished drawing.
Day 20: Tread. I decided to step foot in a puddle of water, haha.
That's something cool about Inktober, by the way. I take great advantage of the themes to try to explore new ideas and things that I would hardly draw on a daily basis - which also helps me to improve my skills.
Finished drawing. For this one I used black and white pens.
Well, here the drawings from the third week of Inktober end. Below are two doodles that I did during the week as well:
A fan art of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock. I love this actor and the series so much! I can't wait to go back, actually, haha. I did it in the Procreate app using a first-generation iPad Air and Intuos Creative Stylus 2 pen. I still plan to return to this art after I finish Inktober :)
A loose doodle that I decided to paint in pastel pencils. I should also work better when I finish Inktober :)
List of materials used this week:
Sakura Pigma Micron 01 - One of the main ones I use, both for areas with little shade and for areas with more shadows;
Sakura Pigma Micron 005 - Also one of the main ones. I use more for areas with little shade and/or details where I need to be very careful not to darken too much - I use enough to make smooth lines and increase shading as needed;
Sakura Pigma Micron 03 - to fill darker and/or purely black areas;
UnipoSCA PC-1MR black(0.7mm, pin type) - to fill in darker and/or purely black areas as well. Use for reinforcement;
UnipoSCA PC-1MR white(0.7mm, pin type) - for lighting areas, and/or reinforcing glows in the design;
UnipoSCA PC-1M gold(0.7mm, bullet shaped) - what I want to decorate for and make it golden;
Sakura Gelly Roll silver and/or gold - what I want to give a silver and/or gold shine to. In fact, this week I noticed that the Sakura Gelly Roll is better than the UniPoSCA that I have for filling larger areas.
Paper: 200g/m² common kraft
First generation iPad Air, Procreate app, and Intuos Creative Stylus 2 - for digital painting. The brush I use to paint is the app's standard. It's textured and the name is Nikko Rull.
Faber-Castell Polychromos pastel pencils - they are quite expensive but wonderful. It has great pigmentation and is very good at blending colors with them. I only recommend buying it even when you are more familiar with colored pencil paints. Before buying them I used those common Faber-Castell crayons that you can find everywhere. After I learned how to use it well, after about 4.5 years of training, then I purchased these professional pencils.
Stabilo colored pens (point 88, end 0.4) - I have a Stabilo case that comes with 20 colors (I imagine it's easy to find) and I generally use more to work on my Bullet Journal. From time to time I use it in some drawings as well, to paint certain areas, as was the case with the Joker fan art. I don't like to use it that much because they tend to be very wet and can smudge, so I use it sparingly, haha.
And that's it for today, guys! I should post the drawings from the fourth week (last week) and those from this week on Sunday, November 3rd - or sooner, it will depend on the rush here :)
