Drawings of the Week #12

The return to digital paintings continues — so does the evolution in art.

And here we go for the 12th edition of Drawings of the Week!

Because of the rush, I did some quick sketches with pencils and a digital painting that was really cool to do. I'm learning a lot and having a lot of fun with these workouts. I hope I can help you too with my posts!

So, shall we go to the drawings?

‍ A sketch of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), one of my favorite series! (Can't wait to watch the special episode in the New Year!)
‍ A quick sketch I did without reference to train and warm up a bit.

And now let's move on to the main design of the post! <3

‍ The sketch I made and then decided to create a digital painting. It's inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, hehe.
Finished painting.

I have a digitizer table that's not good, but it breaks a branch, right... so sometimes it's complicated to get around the sketch and everything else... so, because of this, depending on the area of the drawing, I prefer to use the Pen Tool to make the outlines and create a mask layer to paint on top. As for colors, because of the things I learned searching the web, I always choose a base color (generally a medium tone) and from that tone I use the Eyedropper Tool and Color Picker to choose a lighter color and a darker one of that tone to make light and shade.

What I have the most difficulty with is painting the skin. I read in an article on the web that it's cool to take several colors and mix them — skin colors, in this case I used red, pink, orange, brown, beige, etc. — even if those tones don't appear completely, because they are mixed together to create a more “realistic” feeling... and, really, the result was interesting. I still want to improve hair painting in future projects too, to make it smoother and everything else.

My dream is to buy one Cintiq, the digitizer table of Wacom... but it's so expensive, wow... and that's why I'm looking for apps to be able to use the iPad as an alternative to paint my drawings on the PC. Until then I found the Air Display, which I haven't tested yet, but one day I'll buy it to test. Of course it doesn't completely replace one Cintiq which has its own functions and is prepared for digital art, but it already helps until one day I can fulfill my dream of buying Cintiq, haha.

‍ NOTE: If you are interested, this painting is now available at my store for sale, okay? Just click hereto! It has t-shirts, art print, bag, watch, etc.! :)

Anyway, for today it's just personal! Overall, I really liked the result and I hope to improve it even more in future digital paintings! ^__^ And I need to go back to watercolor too, because I miss you already, hahaha.

A good weekend to you!
