Drawings of the Week

Oh, my friends, how nice it is to draw again! These last few months have been complicated for me, with shift and everything else, so I've been somewhat inactive. The great thing is that, now that I'm more relaxed, I feel motivated to draw again and get back to my routine:)

I confess that I have drawn very little in recent months, having actually resumed this week (at least one drawing a day). To warm up and get back to the routine, I bought a course on Udemy (I highly recommend it, too). Clique hereto to learn - it's in English) and I started training light and shade again, although I already mastered the technique too well, hehe, but it was worth it.

In the last few months I've been very unmotivated, I think. Running around with work and other things, I can't really explain what brought me down, but I didn't feel like drawing... which is absurd, since I love to draw and I have this crazy and strong dream of being a conceptual artist. We human beings are very complicated, aren't we? Hehe. Well, the important thing is that now I feel better and I still want to fulfill that dream! Shall we go to the drawings, then?

This is a sketch that I started when I was still unmotivated and, because of that, it took me some time to finish it. I already knew that I wanted to do something involving ink and watercolor, so I prepared everything for that.
Contours in Nankin.

Check out a video below that I posted on Instagram at the time showing my process for creating the shading effects on the surrounding strings:)

Finished nankin contours. By the way, I'm using a handmade sketchbook here that I bought at the online store Entrelacé. I highly recommend it! The sketchbook features Canson Montval 300 g/m² paper that has a smooth texture and is great for using watercolor and other methods. It doesn't blur on the other side of the paper, in fact, because of this. As I have mentioned here a few times, if you are going to work with watercolor, it is always good to use 300 g/m² paper.
Drawing finished with the use of watercolor.
A sketch of a kind of “superhero” girl (haha) that I did a few weeks later, without reference.
Sketch of an eye that was part of the first section of the course I started. The instructor's idea is that you redraw that eye at the end of the course to see how much you've improved. This is where my motivation came back, haha. It was finally the clear example of how much I had already evolved and how much more I could evolve.
A basic sketch of a face in the style I usually draw. It wasn't part of the course, it was just to let go of my hand and get back to training.
A sketch of a landscape that was part of the course. The idea is to create something from simple shapes, such as triangles, squares, rectangles, circles, and so on. The important thing about this learning is that you will eventually be able to “break” everything you see into simple shapes, which makes it easier to draw.
Same principle as the previous drawing, but this time applied to the creation of characters :)
Some sketches of form studies, shading, etc.
In this last sketch of the week, I applied what I already knew and what I learned extra in the course. Result: a sketch made entirely out of my head, without any reference, that shows how much I have evolved in recent years and that gave me even more motivation for what I can achieve in the future! Something that, in fact, I used to do, but I didn't draw too hard for so long that I entered that phase of “can I still do the job?” Hahaha. But in the end it was a clear example that I'm still well and that I can do even more!
Oh, I had even forgotten to include it here! A digital illustration that I started at the beginning of this year and I haven't had time to finish yet... it was part of my digital art study to paint everything in shades of gray (shadows, lights, etc.) and then apply colors - because I always make my digital illustrations with colors after I finish the sketches, so I wanted to try something different to create different contrasts. I hope to resume it as soon as possible :)

Finally, to summarize: despite everything I've been through in recent months, I still want and know that I can and have the conditions to one day become a great conceptual artist. I will not rest until I achieve this goal! :D
