Hello, everyone! And here comes another edition of the Drawings of the Week with several new drawings, experiments and studies.
PS: I know that I have been owing more reflective posts about new projects for some time, right? It's just that I'm waiting for the projects to go live to be able to post, hahaha. And as for the reflective posts... lack of time at all. Deadlines from here, deadlines from there... complicated, haha. Even finding time to draw isn't easy, but I make an extra effort, not least because I haven't given up on being Concept artist I need to study hard to get there!
I started the week with this quick doodle to warm up.
A pose study using a photo as a reference.
Sketch without reference.
I decided to do the hair differently in this one, leaving the locks of the hair stronger, more visible.
Finished drawing. Stronger contoured locks created a pretty cool effect, don't you think? I confess that I still prefer the way I always do it: separating but leaving the contours lighter, but I still liked to try something different to test.
And here's a fully digital sketch. It's been a while since I played with the stylus and the iPad, haha. The app I use is Adobe Sketch. The stylus is a Wacom Creative Stylus 2. I don't have much patience to do digital sketches, to be honest... but I need to get back to training, get used to it... it's just that traditional drawing is so much looser, so much more “me”, you know? I love doing digital art too, but I generally prefer to do the sketch in my hand and then decal/finish in Photoshop XD
Another pose study from a photo. I need to train more perspective, hehe.
A loose, unreferenced doodle.
And here begins the sketch without reference that I used to test the calligraphy ink that I bought and was left to test, haha.
I first defined the colors I would use, shading, etc.
And here I decided to apply it to some areas of the drawing. The idea was to apply it only to the “tattoos” I made on it, but I decided to apply it to other areas as well, hahaha. I took advantage of the fact that, since I use watercolor pencils for my drawings, I mixed the hair a bit with the paint as well. I had used orange to shade the hair and yellow tones for the lighter areas, but when blending it gave a very interesting effect. The calligraphy ink I'm using is from Winsor & Newton, a brand that I really like (I've used their watercolor tablets too, very good). The problem with this ink is that it is very watery. A lot. It can also be used with a brush, so I decided to test it, but to make it strong in the light I had to use a lot of ink, hahaha and I destroyed some of the paper in the process (on her right arm, which then got in the way of painting)... but it was worth it to test. Without the light, it takes on a very brownish tone.
Finished drawing :)
The week was very productive and full of cool experiments. I hope I can have time to do this more often, it's a lot of fun and helped me learn a lot more :)
Next week, I will probably have to draw less because of the deadline for some projects that I need to finish, but I can't let the Drawings of the Week stop! <3
