Drawings of the Week #35

Special first week of Inktober and new materials!

You have no idea how many drawings I was able to do this week, hahaha! In fact, not quantity in itself, but quality between each one. I think participating in a challenge as cool as Inktober helped me to make an extra effort to keep up the pace.

In the first two days of Inktober, I wasn't following the list of Parker, something that I decided to do after the third day, mainly because of the challenge it represented - and it was VERY worthwhile. I created so much cool stuff and had so much fun, even on a day when I was extremely tired to draw anything.

In addition, my new sketchbook arrived from Miolito of Kraft paper and my Faber Castell pastel pencils that I wanted so much! Basically, more material to take the challenge to another level XD

Look at the amount of love, guys! And I even got one as a gift Journal! This week I will do a special review about the sketchbook ;)
And those beautiful ones that have finally arrived, huh? Hahaha. The quality of these pencils is sensational! So far I was using watercolor pencils from Faber Castell (the basic ones we can find everywhere — I feel they have better pigmentation, although cheap, than other regular pencils). The first drawing here, in fact, was still using them, but in the following she has already been testing these beauties. They are expensive, but they were worth every penny, especially since I already feel very comfortable and confident to draw.

Recalling, of course: if you are still a beginner in drawing, you don't have to buy expensive material no! The artist makes the drawing, not the material he uses. It's the skills you acquire that make the difference, no matter what you use! Just look at my previous drawings using regular pencils. They spent years training (4, to be more exact) until I finally felt the need to use professional pencils:)

And to make an addendum: although I use watercolor pencils a lot for coloring, I use very little to actually make watercolor... for watercolor, I prefer to use tubes or tablets, not least because it's very good to train certain mixes and learn more. The cool thing about watercolor pencils, if you prefer to make your watercolors, is that it's more practical and easier to use, but for those who really want to learn watercolor, tubes or tablets are better, in my opinion. You can make a mix of the two too (watercolor pencils + watercolor), which is really cool!

Anyway, let's get down to the drawings because this post will be great! There are <3 :)

Sketch for the first Inktober drawing.
I decided to use ink and colored pencils, a combination that I love to make!
It took a while to make her clothes, of course... other than that, my Pigma Micron 005 pen ran out, hahaha, so I continued drawing with 01. I was even afraid of not being able to keep the lines extremely fine, but it worked out, hahaha.
Finished drawing.
Sketch for the second day of Inktober.
In this one, I decided to make another combination that I love: graphite and ink pens.
Finished drawing :)
Sketch for the third day of Inktober and, starting then, following Parker's list. Theme: Poison. In this one I was even a little more ambitious and took my skills to a level that I didn't even know I would be able to, hahaha. The face, slightly in perspective, was a very big challenge for me and I learned a lot during the process. The patience here was strong. In the final sketch I changed some details. I was even thinking of making a wolf howling at the top — I think you can tell from the lines — something that changed later in the final version.
Here, I decided to do something that I hadn't trained in a long time: go straight to the drawing board on everything, even into the shadows. I love making hatches, so it was a lot of fun and hard work just the way I like it, hahaha.
My first time drawing and making shadows on a skull like this. I had drawn skulls before (in pencil only), but it was quite challenging to create the variation of lines with ink in this case. And it was a sensational experience.
Finished drawing. Here, I even took the opportunity to play with my white Posca pen, testing a bit, which allowed me to create the next drawing.
Fourth day of Inktober, Underwater theme. The idea I had was of a mermaid that is between the bottom of the sea and outside, the circle symbolizing the idea underwater and the rock on which she is sitting, outside. In this one I also decided to do it completely in ink pens.
Painting that big part with the ink was taking patience to another level too, hahaha. Since my ink pens are 01 (I had 005 too, right, but as I said at the beginning... it's over, haha) and 03, it ends up taking longer to fill the area. I even have other pens with thicker tips, from Tombow, in case... the problem is that it creates a final color that is not so dark, which would make a big difference in the design, so I decided to do it with Micron anyway, no matter how long it took - and next time I need to remember to buy an 08 right away to do those things, hahaha.
I made the details inside the circle with my white Posca pen. I loved the result and it was one of the drawings that I enjoyed doing the most this week!
Fifth day of Inktober, Long theme. I took the opportunity to play with the new sketchbook. I was extremely exhausted. I had done so much that day that I don't even know how I was able to draw anything yet, so the drawing was simpler, but with a cool concept: a girl taking a shower and her long hair coming out of the box drain and turning into a rose in the garden, hahaha. My boyfriend even helped with the idea XD
Sketch for the sixth day of Inktober, Sword theme. The idea here was to create a sword in the shape of a woman. This design was also made entirely in Nanking.
Finished drawing :)
Here, the first sketch with the new pencils and already in the new sketchbook as well. It's not part of Inktober, it was really looser and because I was dying to test my Polychromos on Kraft paper, hahaha.
I had a lot of fun mixing colors and using the white pencil to create the light effect and also whiten my skin. Very cool what you can do using pastel pencils!
Finished drawing ^__^
Sketch for the seventh day of Inktober, Shy (Shy) theme. I was going to play a shy girl, since I like to draw women, haha, but then my boyfriend reminded me of Shy Guy, a character from Super Mario that I LOVE because he's so cute... despite being an enemy in the game, hahaha. I always feel sorry to kill them XD
I used the Posca pen to fill in his face, although later I realized that maybe it would have been better to use the white pencil anyway, because Posca is a little too watery and I almost destroyed the paper. Well, living and learning, HAHA. At the end of the day, it was cool anyway.
Shy Guy finished <3
Another loose sketch that I didn't do for Inktober itself, but more for training as well.
I wanted to play around a bit, mixing everything up, haha. I loved the result :)
I used Posca for some areas to create a stronger glow, white pencils I also mixed with other colors to create different effects on the skin and dress. It was a lot of fun.

And that's all, my dear readers. I hope you enjoyed today's post and I'll do my best to keep the pace of Inktober in full swing! Loving all this exploration so much, hahaha! <3
