I'm happy to be able to keep up with the pace of Inktober, at least one drawing a day with ink! It's been a great challenge for me:)
I even made a cover for my new sketchbook — I commented a bit about it on Past post. You can see the images of the process below:
I decided to do it entirely only in ink because since the cover is the part that is most exposed, if I decided to paint with colored pencils I could blur - the other alternative would be watercolor, but you can't use it much on kraft paper, hehe, so it was just white and black:)
Sketch for Sunday, the 8th (Crooked).
Also in black and white, the idea is a lonely character who is reflecting on his life, sad because no one wants to be your friend because he is different ):
Day 9, Screech. For this one, I used a reference of a screaming woman and loved the result. It was the first time I decided to make a more expressive face. Then I turned her into a little monster, hahaha.
The idea was to play with the theme, Screech, which is why the park is called Screech Park. Taking advantage of the month of Halloween, I wanted to do something darker and at the same time playful, hahaha.
The poster says: “closed because of many murders”, hahaha.
At the end of the day, it ended up looking like a very trashy horror movie cover and I had a lot of fun doing it, hahaha. I used ink for the outlines (white and black) and pastel pencils.
Sketch for day 10: Gigantic.
I thought about leaving it alone in the ink, but I also decided to paint.
A tip: notice that I used warm colors on elements that I wanted to emphasize and bring closer to the “action”: the girl, the tree, the little dragon, etc. More distant elements, besides being lighter, I used cooler colors. This is a technique to create depth to the drawing, to give the feeling of space, distance.
And let's move on to the 11th drawing, Run, which also illustrates the cover of this edition of the Drawings of the Week. I decided to make a new fan art of Amaterasu, that beautiful wolf and the main character of the game Okami (in fact, the HD version of the game will be released at the end of the year! Can't wait to be able to play again!).
After the finished sketch, I decided to paint the inside part white, because then I wanted to outline it in ink and leave the lines heavy to remind a bit of the style of the game itself.
I took the opportunity to play again with my Tombow Dual Brush pens to make some stronger lines! I missed them! I painted some details in pastel pencils as well.
Finished drawing.
Here's a small comparison with a drawing I made of her in 2013 and this new one. I was very happy to see the evolution: today I make looser, more personalized drawings... in the past, when I was still in that learning phase, I tried to make everything perfect and this only resulted in crooked and “worried” lines. Today, I already embrace imperfection as a Feature my own and that made me evolve too much!
Sketch from the 12th, Shattered.
The idea here was to create a “broken” woman, hahaha. I used black and white ink pens and two shades of pastel blue pencils.
A random sketch done on the same day.
I made the outlines in ink and then decided to paint with pastel pencils.
A detail that I like to do in pastel pencils: paint with white to create the light effects and then add color on top, leaving some spaces to maintain the lighting.
I used skin colors for the skin: pink and light brown, in addition to white ink pen also to reinforce the lighting.
Sketch from the 13th, Teeming.
I had never drawn bees before. In that one I was even able to develop a diagram to do them quickly, because the drawing would be very detailed, haha. I used simple shapes: a rectangle for the head, a circle soon after for that “hairy” area of hers XD and the rest from that (any day I'll do a tutorial explaining it better, hahaha).
Then, it was enough to work on the shadows in the ink, leaving some areas open to provide lighting.
As the background would be very dark, I left the back of the bees without any shade to make them more visible.
Finished drawing.
Random drawing from the same day that started in pencil and ended in insanity, I mixed several things, hahaha: sanguine oil pencil, white and black pens, white pencils, etc.
I forgot and ended up not taking a picture of that sketch, unfortunately. Day 14, Fierce theme. An elf and her faithful wolf companion XD
Both with a similar look.
This one was made entirely in ink pens too: black, white and red, in addition to the yellow eyes.
And here I end the second week of Inktober, guys! I hope you enjoyed it! Next week, of course, there's more! ;)
