I didn't do so many drawings this week, but I did enough for a productive week that was worth seeing how I'm evolving in art :)
I started the week with a sanguine oil pencil sketch without reference.
Then, one night when I couldn't sleep at all (haha) I started another very interesting sketch (also, without reference).
I detailed it better the next day. At first, it would be something only in ink, but I decided to paint with pastel pencils as well.
I love drawing the contours in ink pens! I always start with smooth, fine lines... and then I retract again the areas that I want to leave with stronger contours, that's what generates the contrast.
Starting to paint with ink pencils. First, I painted the parts of the skin white, to then detail them more. I do this to be able to maintain shine on certain areas of the face.
I used brown, beige and pink pencils for the skin, in addition to, of course, using white to reinforce the sparkles. I also used white around the contours of the skin, to create a “bouncing light” effect — basically a soft surrounding light. It creates a very natural shine, it's worth it:)
I love using color theory to choose the perfect colors for my designs. In this case, since I wanted to dye my hair purple, I also used shades of yellow to create contrast - since yellow is a complementary color to purple.
In the background, I used cool colors (blue) because they are elements that are behind all the “action”. You should always use warm colors (orange, red, yellow, etc.) in the foreground elements (or in elements that you want to draw attention to) in your composition and cool colors (blue, light purple, etc.) for elements in the background. This creates a depth effect.
Finished drawing.
For this sketch I used a reference photo just for pose study:)
In this one, I decided to use only the ink.
This one took a long time because of the giant hair, haha, but it was worth it:)
I went into detail little by little. I recommend using a 005 pen for very light and fine lines, such as facial details, shadows and hair. Sometimes I use 01 too - usually when 005 ends, hahaha, or when I want to make slightly thicker lines. I also tend to use 03:08 for even thicker lines or completely black backgrounds (the clothes, in this case).
I used the white pen to add a special touch, sparkles, etc... as always, actually:)
I also like to use the white pen to create a more fine-grained effect on the drawing.
The idea in this one, too, was to look like she was inside a painting and, when she leaves, elements are left with white outlines - a reference also to my current style of white outlines.
I also used a white pastel pencil to generate a bit of glow on the skin. Very soft, of course, not very strong.
Finished drawing :)
And that's it for today, guys! Next week, as always, there's more ;)
