I recently returned to playing Pokémon. I've been a fan since I was a child, both of the anime and of the games in the franchise. I bought the Omega Ruby (3DS), remake From the old Ruby (GBC)! Sensational game! The region of Hoenn It's one of my favorites, so I couldn't help but have the box of remake of that classic. I even wanted to review the anime (the old episodes). I think the one from the region of Hoenn It's season 6... good times! What about Ash who doesn't age, guys? Hahaha.
Anyway, because of this the Drawings of the Week Today is Pokémon special!
I made three drawings. Beautifly, Mew and Ninetales. O Beautifly It's one of my favorite Pokémons in the region of Hoenn (3rd generation) and Mew and Ninetales from Kanto (1st generation). I confess that I am a huge fan of the first, second and third generations, but I also keep taking a look at the new ones. Pokémon X/Y (region of Kalos) it was a lot of fun too!
Let's get to the drawings!
My first drawing this week was a Beautifly sketch that I then outlined with ink (and erased the traces of the pencil so that when painting with watercolor it wouldn't blur). Here's the tip, by the way — graphite and water don't go together, haha). You always have to leave the lines of the pencil for reference very soft before painting with watercolor!
To leave it with a light and shadow effect (although its color is very dark gray), I left some areas lighter and others darker. That was what gave the design the most volume and value.
It was a drawing I made relatively quickly even, but the result made me happy. I didn't plan a better composition - as a background and everything else, not least because it was more for training, but one day I intend to redo it with a really cool background!
The Ninetales one was much more complicated to do and it wasn't that much because of the sketch, haha. As you can see, I made a very light sketch so I could paint with watercolor... I did this because on Beautifly I ended up suffering a bit because I made a stronger sketch and when it came to erasing the paper I suffered a bit, haha.
In this one I didn't outline with ink, it was all with watercolor and in some areas watercolor pencils. There was a moment when I almost despaired, and that was when I opened my eyes. They were good, but I thought they were very watery and when it came to ironing the napkin to make it clearer and correct, it ended up blurring a bit. I was so angry, haha, but it happens... and then I also realized that I have to be more careful with mega-dark tones XD I played a bit with hair colors, mixing some watercolor colors (yellow and brown) and creating layers until I got the tone I wanted. For the mountains, same thing, but using black — you get gray tones using black, just be careful not to make it too dark — use more water to create layers. Then, after it dries, create more layers to darken the areas you want.
Here's a cool tip too: after it dries, you can still correct and merge some areas! Just get the brush a little wet and make circular movements over the area you want to merge! If you compare the previous image with this one, you will see that there are some areas that I merged using this technique that I learned (such as the speck of mountain ash that blurred slightly over his tail and parts of the sky and the clouds). I used a brown watercolor pencil for the outlines of the Ninetales and to darken some areas, too, to create shadows.
I was happy with the result, too... although I wanted to make a better sky. I learned some cool techniques that, as soon as I become a master, I'll teach you... I'll need a specific brush that I'll buy as soon as it helps to blend the tones (as if it were a Photoshop feather, you know? It's really cool, haha). Other than that and the eye problem, I'm happy, haha.
The one from Mew I'm still in the sketch phase, studying some possibilities. I made that one in the early hours of today, haha. I intend to make a cool version for painting with watercolor. It's going to be challenging, which is great! XD
I'm not sure you can tell from the photos in the sketch, but it's inspired by that scene from the first Pokémon movie, in which Mew is in the water inside a bubble.
That's it for today! Next week there will be more, of course!
