The week was very productive, in addition to marking my return to digital art as I said I would do this year. I want, little by little, to go back and get used to a stylus, a digitizer, an iPad... and so on, haha.
Now that I'm finally finding my own style, a trait of mine, it's important that I bring this to digital as well. Of course, I will not stop doing traditional art with ink and pastel pencils, since in addition to having helped me a lot to grow, I really like it, however, to be a concept artist and adapt to today's world, it is important to have extensive knowledge about several different techniques and styles.
For those who have known me for some time, you know that I was already doing digital art in the past (you can check it out there in my portfolio) and I stopped because I felt the need to improve my drawing skills and bases so that I could feel more confident about my work and could finally return to digital. Today I am happy to say that I already feel the necessary confidence to take other directions and try different things, in addition to taking further steps.
And here we go to the drawings of the week:
I started the week with a doodle in the sketchbook.
I decided to paint with pastel pencils <3
As I evolved, I realized that today I already use many more colors to create a more “realistic” skin effect, you know? As we practice, we identify many more details and translate them into our art. I used about 5 colors to create the skin here, including two brown, pink, white and beige, for example. I even take advantage of the color of the paper in some areas to create a soft light effect. It makes the design better suited to the type of paper, including.
Finished drawing:)
A doodle in ink to illustrate the cover of my journal that I won from Miolito when I bought my second sketchbook with them:)
Here, my return to digital art. I wrote a doodle on the iPad (I use a first-generation iPad Air), on the Adobe Sketch app (which I really like) and the stylus I use is an Intuos Creative Stylus 2, from Wacom. Great pen, by the way. Gift that the boyfriend gave me some time ago, haha:)
I really liked the brush that imitates graphite pencils. It even feels like you're actually using a pencil, you know? Very comfortable. I created this sketch on just one layer and it was only when I went to paint over it that I divided the colors into other layers to be able to test.
In a new layer, I created a base for skin colors to test.
In other layers, I reinforced the colors and line art to create greater contrast.
Using the same brush, in fact, to maintain the pattern and style I wanted to generate.
I also took the opportunity to test something new that I never did much in my digital arts in the past: to create a different backlight with a color that would generate a great contrast with the background and the piece as a whole. It gives a very nice effect. I always wanted to test that, hahaha.
Final art:)
A doodle on a bic pen.
Sketch for pose and expression training...
... which, of course, I decided to paint in pastel pencils.
Finished drawing. The idea here is a “space warrior”. I even wanted to give her a name and some people came up with some really cool ideas, like Alyxia or Aisha, for example. I particularly liked Aisha :)
And that's it, guys. I hope you enjoyed today's post!
I want to do even more digital art again and bring you more tips:)
