Wow... 76th edition of the Drawings of the Week, hehe. I started this blog on August 21, 2015 (drawing my way to pursue the dream of being a Concept Artist. I really started drawing with purpose between January - March 2013) and since then I have evolved so much every week that sometimes I even need to stop a bit to reflect on this whole trajectory and how it has been worth it.

As I always say here, it takes time to improve. It really takes time... but if you like to draw as much as I do and you dream of making it a profession, it's worth every second of time you invest studying and practicing :)

I started the week with a loose sketch — a woman wearing a mask — in the sketchbook.
Initial sketch of a study.
Here is the finished drawing in white pastel pencils and graphite pencils (6B and 8B).

For those who are starting out, I recommend using 2B to make soft sketches and then using 4B and 6B for shadows. As you gradually learn how to apply proper pressure on the pencil to achieve the desired effect, 8B is also cool to use. I say this because when I started it was like that too. As I got used to using pencils properly to make stronger or lighter shadows with hand pressure, today I even use only one pencil depending on the design and effect I want to create, hahaha.

Of the 5 years I have been practicing drawing, one was practicing light and shade every day. It was very worthwhile. And that's what you learn by actually training, you know? By studying hard, there is no easier route or magic, just practice... and that goes for everything: anatomy, perspective, painting, etc. But for those who are starting out, training light and shadow to have a basis is undoubtedly fundamental to everything, even when you start painting your drawings.

Digital Sketch on Procreate. I still want to work on it better, add more details eventually:)
I decided to do a rose study too since I hadn't done one in a while ago.
I did the initial sketch really loose (in blood pencils), almost null in fact, because I decided to draw/paint directly on the pastel pencil.
Finished drawing. I ended up playing a bit more than I originally planned, haha, but it was fun.
Another sketch - this time without reference - to let go a little.

And that's it for today, guys. There will be more next week!
