Drawings of the Week #68

Drawings in ink, graphite and digital.

This week I didn't draw in pastel pencils — since I do it more frequently — so I decided to draw more with graphite pencils and ink pens, besides having started a digital one yesterday that I'm still exploring.

It's a shame I wasn't able to participate in #mermay this year. I wish I had done a mermaid a day, but work here is very busy, hehe. I started the week with this mermaid sketch, done without reference.

Generally, when I want to make a more laborious drawing in ink, haha, I start with a pencil sketch that I then draw and define better in ink. The pencil sketch is generally very loose and not ready, since the real idea is to define everything later in ink. This makes the design more yours, more unique. I will also define the lighting with the white pen, in addition to then giving some details in gold as well.

Sometimes I like to do everything straight out of the box when I do something less definite. It's great for training traits and building confidence too. When we work in Nanjing at the beginning, we tend to have a certain fear of making mistakes, which is normal. By practicing hard, you define your style and reliance. This goes for any type of material, in fact, especially watercolor.

Below are photos of the details in gold for you to see. I took the opportunity to use glitter for the scales, eyes and “tattoos”:)

Finished drawing (oh, and I made the wolf/fox there in Last week, if you want to see it, haha).
Another unreferenced doodle, this time on a pencil (initial sketch), graphite pencils (shadows and contours) and white pastel pencils (lighting).
Digital sketch that I started yesterday. For this one I am using referral for the pose. Remember that I don't try to copy references anymore — for beginners it's cool to copy yes to train — but today I tend to use references to define my own idea and study anatomy, pose, etc.

In this case, I'm still thinking about what to do. On the one hand, I liked the style I created for the mermaid (#64 and #65), blurring my lines and exploring various brushes (something that was more to explore the tools of the Procreate app itself rather than something more in my style), but in this case I'm thinking of abusing the lines more and doing some in the same scheme as the sketches that I made in the app Bamboo Paper.

I seek to define my digital style, bringing what I already do with pastel pencils and ink to digital. Next week I should define this better:)

And that's it guys. There will be more next week <3
